The app is in Japanese only.
Its screens and all of its content — food names, steps, recipes and articles — are in Japanese.
It can be downloaded outside Japan, but there is no English version of the app itself.
The name means roughly “an illustrated guide to freezing” (reitou = freezing, zukan = illustrated guide).
You bought it because it was cheap, and then it went bad before you could use it all.
This app is meant to put an end to that.
For each food, you can look up how to cut it, how to freeze it, and how to thaw and use it.
The steps are not text alone: each step has its own illustration, with that food drawn into the picture.
If you log what you have frozen, the app sends a notification as the day to use it up approaches.
It works on iPhone and iPad (an Android version is in preparation).

What it does
How to freeze 181 foods — in 11 categories, from vegetables, fruit, meat, seafood and dairy to fish-paste products (nerimono), staples, prepared dishes and desserts
An illustration for every step — for spinach, the “wash” picture shows a green bunch going into the bowl; for shiitake, it shows shiitake
When a food can be frozen more than one way, you choose by how you will use it — raw, parboiled first, grated, and so on
How to thaw it, with each method marked as suitable or not — 11 ways, including cooking straight from frozen, under running water, in the refrigerator and partial thawing
A recipe for every food — a dish you can make from that frozen item, with ingredients and steps
Freezer log and notifications — what you froze, and when. You can set two reminders, each a chosen number of days before the suggested day to use it up
Reverse lookup — search by thawing method, by what can go in a packed lunch (bento), by foods that call for caution, or by the month they are in season
Freezing basics in 20 short articles — why quick-freezing matters, what freezer burn really is, and small tricks for organizing your freezer
Not a single photo
The illustrations in this app are all drawn in code.
Not one photo is used anywhere, from the shapes of the foods and how they are cut to the pictures for each step.
That keeps the app light, and showing its content involves no network traffic.
Price
It is free.
All 181 foods and all 20 articles can be read at no extra charge.
There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

Reitou Zukan collects no information that could identify you, and there is no account to create.
